Dust Blooms

Truly an amazing place! And a perfect time of the year to visit, while all the plant life was in full bloom. I had a full afternoon into sunset to film with my Sony EX1 and Letus Extreme adapter. I used several of my Nikon lenses for this film. So much to film at this place!

Filmed at the Phoenix Botanical Gardens, using my Sony PMW-EX1 with a Letus Extreme and Nikon glass. Color graded in Magic Bullet Looks.

  • Very nice. Lovely stuff and very well shot!

Personally I would be careful of those digital zooms as they do look cool but on some shots they look like still frames montage zooms…but that’s me being picky!!

    Nice site Scott!

    Hey Scott.

I like this too, I enjoy the slow pushes and pulls, but Phil is right, you must use them carefully.

I have a question: How do you get the reply to the comment appear under the original comment? Is that the new version of Atahualpa or is that the new version of wordpress?

I am running very old stuff on my site, but have modified the code so much I fear upgrading!

    • Tom, Thank you for the comments!

As for the reply to comments; I am using 2.7.1 of WordPress. From the WordPress Dashboard, Under ‘Settings/Discussion’ in the “Other comment settings” section, there is a checkbox to turn ON or OFF “Enable threaded (nested) comments XX levels deep”.

Upgrading should not be a problem. Make sure you get a compatible version of Atahualpa, and make a full backup of your site. Then, if there is an issue, you can ‘rollback’ from your backup. I have some code mods, and have upgraded once, no issues.

I agree with Bloom and Guilmette on the digital zoom stuff. The reason it looks “digital” though I feel is how steady the zoom is. Try using logarithmic curves for the zoom… maybe that would make it feel more organic. I did that in a project a while back. Or just go pick up a small PVC / skateboard trucks setup like Guilmette uses!

Overall, I liked the look and feel. Wish you could have graded it so it emphasized the accent colors (the magentas, purples, etc) though! That would’ve been awesome! And I would’ve loved to see more of a richer blue sky… where you using a polarizer?

Your pans were fantastic. Having a pro tripod makes a world of a difference in the professionalism of something like this!

now stop copying Tom’s WordPress themes and we’ll be golden!

    • Thanks for the comments Joseph!
Actually I have a skateboard dolly much like Tom’s. No way to bring it on that trip though. Was a last minute location since I had 4 hours to kill due to the military exercise being delayed.
No polarizer on this film, wish I had used! I had a couple too…

Actually, I have been programming WordPress sites for 4 years, and love the Atahualpa theme! So many ways to alter and customize it.
